The way Luise, representing quite a number of upright people judged the things that had
to do with ”denazification” follows most descriptively from one of her letters to the
Strauss family dating back to 1947:
“... Dear loved ones, the news about Huenfeld will probably be reported to you from there,
since T. told me some time ago that everyone is asking for your address; they all want to
write to you. Some do it out of friendship, others because they’d like to receive a certificate of
exoneration. There are many people who come to me, asking me to testify that they had
been on good terms with the Strauss family. It’s true with some,
with others it isn’t. Even K. from ”Fuldaerberg” wrote to you! I bet you he, too, wanted a
certificate of exoneration. Now, if that guy wasn’t a Nazi who was? Can you imagine, my
father is not yet done with the ”Spruchkammer”, and he definitely didn’t do anything wrong.
Well, that’s the way it is: They catch the little
guy and let the big shots get away. …”
