We really were fortunate to recover our furniture, and so we were in a position to
take in other people, who had not yet a place to live. We took in three people, and
one day during December a gentleman stopped by and asked us, whether we could
still take in a 15 year old boy, who also lived in hiding close-by. Our answer was
”yes”, and that’s how Alfred came to stay with us on December 13, 1944.
Alfred has a hard time writing in German, and I always have to help him. Alfred
had a good report card, of course he has quite some catching up to do as far as
things are concerned that he missed during the whole time. After school vacation
Alfred is going to attend High School (Grammar School). For the time he has been
with us we also afforded him to take English lessons.
The decision about what he might be as far as his future profession is concerned is
up to you, dear Mr. Strauss; for the time being he’s got to study again and again.
Wouldn’t there be a possibility for you to come over here since you have already
two children here? Just give it a try, you are quite welcome at our house, and we
do have overnight accommodations.
