The translators and the author:
Martin H. Siebert is a son of
the late H.M. Siebert, who was
the protestant pastor in
Burghaun from 1931 to
1950. Martin was pastor in
Burghaun prior to his emi-gration to the U.S.A., where
he served as pastor of the
UCC for 24 years. He trans-lated the major part of the
German text into American
vernacular. Currently the
Siebert family lives in Peine
(Lower Saxony).
Elisabeth Sternberg-Siebert,
the translator's sister, moved
back to Burghaun in 1984
with two of her three
children. She is a retired
teacher and taught at the
Burghaun elementary school
for many years.
Ever since about 1988 she
has concerned herself with
the Jewish history of
Burghaun and the county of
Huenfeld.
Eli Noam is "Professor of
Finance and Economics" at
the Columbia University and
"Director of the Columbia
Institute for Tele-Information" in New York. He
translated the chapter
"Survival in Concentration
Camps". His roots are in the
county of Huenfeld, in
Eiterfeld, where his great-grand-father Levi Nussbaum
was born.
