Up to the time of their death Joseph and Lilly Strauss had stayed in touch with some friends and acquaintances from Huenfeld, particularly with Luise, ”Joseph’s right hand”. But they did not ever want to set foot again on the land of their forebears, which also was the land of their torturers.

Alfred Strauss kind of passed on the relationship, which his parents had with their former sales clerk Luise to the next generation. So he met Luise’s daughter, Roswitha, during his visit in 2005 at her home in Friesenhausen. Alfred stays in courteous contact with the Kraus family in Huenfeld. After the war the Kraus' had bought the former Strauss estate

and established a metalworking company.

Also, the relationship with the former fellow occupant, Mrs. Gertrude Eckert, of whom Alfred doesn’t have any personal memories (he was just three years old when Gertrude moved to Fulda in 1933), was nevertheless renewed by his visit.

Joseph Strauss hatte viele Freunde in Hünfeld. Obzwar er nach dem Krieg niemals mehr nach Deutschland kommen wollte, pflegte er aber einen regen Briefwechsel mit einigen von ihnen. Auch zur früheren Verkäuferin Luise Breitung geb. Bodesheim, seine "rechte Hand", stand die Familie Strauss in Briefkontakt bis zu deren Tod. Sohn Alfred hat diese Verbindung aufrecht erhalten und quasi auf die nächste Generation übertragen.

Mit Familie Kraus, die nach dem Krieg das frühere Anwesen Strauss kaufte und darin einen metallverarbeitenden Betrieb etablierte, steht Alfred ebenfalls in freundschaftlicher Verbindung.

Auch die Beziehung zur früheren Mitbewohnerin Frau Gertrude Eckert, an die sich Alfred natürlich nicht persönlich erinnern kann, da er bei ihrem Wegzug ja erst drei Jahre alt war, hat bei dem aktuellen Besuch eine Auffrischung erfahren.
