The week’s schedule was packed with
numerous activities and meetings, and at the
end father and daughter gained many
experiences worthwhile to be taken home.
On the second day of the visit it was a special
challenge for the native of Huenfeld to appear
as a contemporary witness and Holocaust
survivor before an audience at ”Wigbert
Highschool”. For Alfred this was the first
time to talk about his experiences and
memories of the Nazi period in front of a
school class.
Encounters in Huenfeld in 2005
The history teacher, Mrs. Taubert, as well as Elisabeth
Sternberg-Siebert had organized and prepared two
impressive lessons. To an attentive audience Alfred
Strauss spoke about his eventful and moving life, and
he faced the questions of the youngsters.
The next day, April 15, 2005, the Huenfeld news
reported extensively under the headline
”Inexpressible Feelings” about the extraordinary
history lesson at ”Wigbert Highschool”.
Am Donnerstag, dem 14. April erlebten die Schüler
und Schülerinnen einer 10. Klasse des Wigbert-Gymnasiums in Hünfeld einen außergewöhnlichen
Geschichtsunterricht. Alfred Strauss erzählte aus
seinem bewegten und bewegenden Leben und stellte
sich den Fragen der jungen Leute.
Die Hünfelder Zeitung berichtete am nächsten Tag
ausführlich über den von Elisabeth Sternberg-Siebert
und der Geschichtslehrerin Taubert organisierten
Unterrichtsbesuch.
