They kept thinking up new ways to torment us: first they shaved off the men’s hair.
Then they cut off a broad swath in the middle. Then in June of 1944 all women and
girls had all their hair shorn off. In July, a doctor arrived from concentration camp
Kaiserwald and selected all sick and ailing.
Of course this also hit many young and healthy people, as always in such actions.
People with a hernia from the hard work at the A.B.A. were taken away.
From our family, the following departed: Emma Heiser, Aron Wertheim, Frieda
Kaiser-wife of Baruch Kaiser ( the brother of Bertha’s husband) and Blaettner with
his wife. His mother-in-law and his child were taken on November 2.
Live continued, but we were in constant fear because the war’s front came closer to
Riga, and we had to expect being moved. We were scared of any change. In August,
half of our people were transferred.
Initially we were 1.300 people. Of those, in early 1944 about 200 were taken to
Grottingen in Lithuania, about 120 went to the ”Krebsbach action”, and about 500 in
August to the concentration camp Stutthof near Danzig.
In September 1844 Riga was evacuated. Thus, on September 26 the rest of us were
taken to the concentration camp Stutthof-except for 200 people. We were among
those 200.
