I lived with the Cohen family until about March of 1943. There I also attended a
Jewish grade school, which wasn’t even that far away. It took me 10 to 15 minutes to
walk to school.
In those days the GESTAPO raids had already started. Once, when I was in town, I
experienced one of them, but thank God I was rather far- off from it. I ran home right
away. Actually, I wasn’t afraid on the way to school, since we were always walking
in a group of several students.
