From ”Kristallnacht” up to Deportationon
We don’t know much about the final period of  time in Huenfeld. However, for those family members, who were left behind, it had to have been very bitter.  As of September 1, 1941 they had to wear the yellow star. The once well off family was destitute and had to do forced labor in the woods. Joseph had to sell the house and all the other real estate, in order to have some means  to secure a modest existence for the rest of the family. He was not permitted to have the money, which was deposited in a blocked account, at his own disposal. The foreign currency department would only after thorough examination allow a vital amount anyway.  Mid-November 1941 the family  was supposed to vacate the house and move in with the coal merchant by the name of Kohlmann. That, however, didn’t materialize, since shortly after that deportation orders were served.

The Strauss’ house after WWII - a family by the name of Kraus bought the place in 1952. The previous owner, Mrs. Kremer was still living on the 2nd floor in 1952. Furthermore, the house was full of people, most of them refugees, so that the Kraus family at first lived in but three rooms, and only step by step could occupy the entire house.

Haus Strauss nach dem Krieg - Familie Kraus kaufte das Anwesen 1952. Die Vorbesitzerin Kremer wohnte 1952 noch im 1. Stock. Überhaupt sei das Haus voller Menschen gewesen, meist Flüchtlinge, sodass die Familie Kraus zunächst nur drei Räume bezog und erst nach und nach alles bewohnen konnte.
